We’ve all experienced that feeling of waiting for our next student loan to hit our bank account so we can start living properly again and with lockdown now in full swing a lot of us have lost our jobs as well. So, I have made a list of the top five ways we can use our skills and experience to earn money online.
Blogging is a huge, rapidly growing industry with around 5.8 million new blog posts published every day, and for good reason. If you can find a niche topic and take a different angle you can soon build a huge following and loyal reader base. Once you grow your blog there are many ways to monetise it; you can sell merchandise; incorporate adverts on your website; endorse products and much more. To do this you will need a reasonable following with enough web traffic coming to your blog. This means writing regular content which will inspire and engage your audience.
If this sounds like something you could do check out websites such as WordPress, Wix or SquareSpace who all allow you to easily build and publish an online blog at a relatively low cost.
Don’t fancy starting your own blog? You can still make money! If you can write engaging content, why not build up a portfolio and then get in contact with other magazines or blogs. They will often have multiple contributors writing for them and you might be able to get a gig writing for them! Just remember, blogging is about inspiring people and sharing your knowledge so find your unique skillset and work with that to make your content exciting and engaging for your readers.
Social Media Influencer
Similar to blogging but also very different. Becoming a social media influencer is a hugely popular way of making a living and with shows like Love Island (which we love!), it’s becoming even easier for people to become ‘Insta famous’. There is also the rise of TikTok which is leading to a new generation of influencers with people building huge followings simply by creating engaging content using their phones.
You just need a unique selling point that will make you stand out and help build a following. You can become an influencer in many different areas, a list of just a few examples are below:
Once you have a reasonable following there are several ways to make money in a similar way to blogging. Some ways include paid posts; running competitions; affiliate marketing; events and public appearances.
Celebrities have also harnessed the power of social media with Cristiano Ronaldo being the most followed person on Instagram with over 212 million followers! But remember, you only need to have a few thousand followers on some platforms to start making money.
Sell Something Creative Online
You don’t have to be famous to make money online, if you have a creative talent then why not sell it online. Websites like Etsy allow you to sell almost anything online, from clothes to art and even home décor. All you have to do is register for an account on their website then follow the instructions to get your page launched.
This could be anything from making drawings or paintings of people’s pets to making friendship bracelets and jewellery. There really is no limit to what you can sell so get creative and use this lockdown to start selling your creative art. Download the app now to check it out and start making money today!
4. Social Media Consultant
With social media growing every day more businesses are going online to try and keep up. However, there’s a lot of small business owners out there who have no idea how to use social media effectively and would love for someone to help them grow their following and harness the powerful effect of social media.
If you have the experience and understanding of how to effectively grow a social media account, then why not reach out to some small businesses and see if you can help them grow their brand online. There is a huge amount of business available so if you can get your offering right then you could make thousands, all from your sofa!
Just consider that you will need to prove you know what you’re doing as there are lots of agencies out there who have huge amounts of experience so what will make you stand out?
Another way to make money from home is to become a website developer. If you have the experience or study a relevant degree at Uni, then you could potentially make a ton of money.
You will need to be able to demonstrate some examples of work you have done before if you want to secure paying customers so why not use this lockdown to practise and build your portfolio.
You don’t have to do all the coding yourself with website platforms such as SquareSpace and Wix having easy-to-use design software. All you need is a laptop and creative mind to design beautiful, eye catching websites. These companies often have programmes for designers to get discounts on hosting costs to make the business more profitable for you if you host the websites through their platforms.
So, what are you waiting for? Get creative and use your time during lockdown to start making money online without having to even leave your home.
